About our Speakers

August Kesseler

After taking over the vineyards from his parents in the late seventies, August  was one of the pioneers in Germany to produce breathtaking Pinot Noirs which have achieved cult status and fetch some of the highest prices throughout Germany. His Rieslings are of a fine fruity elegance where the terroir is the dominant factor. August Kesseler has vineyards in the top sites, such as Assmannhaeuser Hoellenberg, Ruedesheimer Berg Schlossberg, Bischofsberg, Berg Roseneck and Rottland.   August Kesseler was running Schloss Reinhartshausen from 1992-2000 and is no doubt responsible for the dramatic rise to immense popularity during that time. August has made a name for himself in recent years, not only for his outstanding red wines. His Rieslings, too, dry and nobly sweet, are by now among the best to be found in the Rheingau.  An important part of his success is contributed by his two cellarmasters, Thomas Muno and Mathias Himstadt.

Ken Mason

Ken Mason is the Regional Sales Manager for Classic Wine Imports, and is also Classic’s buyer for German, Austrian and Alsatian wines. A chef by training (Culinary Institute of America – 1973), Ken worked as a chef for Steingenberger Hotels in Baden Baden Germany, and later opened his own restaurant, The Mason Jar, on Cape Cod. Joining Classic Wine Imports in 1996, Ken first imported the 1997 vintage from Germany. Ken spends ten days a year in Germany, visiting estates and tasting wines for import. He is a passionate advocate for German wines, and has been a great help to the New England chapter of the German Wine Society for the last two years.
